Trip To Nowhere 2021

The final day.   From the campground looking across the golf course to Morro Rock Had a lovely walk through the tourist area in Morro Bay until there were too many tourists for comfort.   Then it was time for lunch at the Harbor Hut as per our usual routine.  Looking from the base of Morro Rock to the town of Morro Bay Lunch at Harbor Hut We lucked out again by coming by the State Park and asking for a disabled site.  Signs said the campground was full but there was at least one disabled site.   This isn't the site with electricity and water but still okay Across the street from the campground - has a restaurant and a marvelous walking path

Not a very exciting day but we did have a visitor as we were packing up the RV this morning. They just wander everywhere - so cute! We did stop for coffee and a walk in Gonzales then just pushed on to here. Pretty quiet here but HOT. Looking forward to going back to the coast tomorrow.  Still, this is a very great campground with all the amenities you could think of.  We're ordering dinner delivered after Norm has a hot tub and a swim.

A day of exploring Pacific Grove.  A new spot that we haven't known before even after coming here for 40 years ...  The Kissing Rock The waves were abnormally high today with an expectation of 13 to 17 feet which made driving along the coast quite interesting. As always, you see deer everywhere there is greenery. We discovered the Butterfly house... What a kick!  Has a sign for Hillary for 2016! Of course we had to wander through the cemetery.

More new experiences today starting with a drive through Elkhorn Slough.  This is " 7-mile-long tidal slough and estuary on Monterey Bay in Monterey County, California. It is California's second largest estuary and the United States' first estuarine sanctuary." An interesting road to get through the Slough!  The photos below were taken through the window.  Then it was on to Moss Landing Harbor.   This is huge!   By accident we discovered there is a campground in the harbor and it looks pretty good.  If we had known about this yesterday we would have stayed there instead and been happier.  The coastline as we got close to Monterey, as we're flying by at 60 mph.  Headed south this morning and made a stop in Pescadero.  Lots of people around and quite a few just waiting for Norm's Market to open.  We had a chance to walk around the small town a little while we also waited for the store to open. The local radio station We pulled into Pescadero State Beach just to watch the waves. I had booked a hotel in Santa Cruz but when we got there we could see there was no place to park the RV.  A very congested area because it was close to the beach and the river.  Plan B took us to the RV Park in the harbor but that was full.  Plan C took us to Watsonville and this hotel. Now waiting to have ribs delivered for dinner!

Today has been the height of laziness.  First, we slept in until 11 am.  After breakfast we went into town to the Safeway to get some supplies. Lots of people around, lots of traffic on the road.  We decided to check out the Ritz Carlton which is well off the beaten path but couldn't find any place to park so that we could check out the hotel and ended up just going back to the campground.  Not interested in going to town with so many people around especially when the campground is so quiet. Went back to the pub for dinner and had a good trivial pursuit game.  Now on to Santa Cruz tomorrow and a new area to explore.

 Very ambitious today and decided we were going to walk to town.  That was quite a stroll to get there and then we walked through the boutiques and coffee shops as well. Fun stuff everywhere you look Love this patio of a Mexican restaurant in the middle of town Of course, we went back to the pub for dinner.  There is so much to see and multiple rooms so it's very entertaining. A quiet day.   Found this spot while walking around the campground.  Took a long walk, had a nap and went back to the pub for dinner.  It's been a day of comedy.  We got here Wednesday and talked with the camp host about staying another day.   Went this morning and paid for another day.  This afternoon we decided to go to Santa Cruz and booked a hotel since we couldn't find an available campsite.  Norm went to the office and we were offered a site for Friday night.   I went back to the hotel to change the reservation to Saturday.   They said there was a different rate for Saturday; it went from $233 to $395 so I canceled.  Meanwhile the office got a cancelation for Saturday for our new site.   We will stay here Saturday too.  We're now up to 4 days here and we're finding it hysterical. 

Today was get through the mess that is the Bay area so we drove 96.5 miles.   Whew! We've lucked into this campground.  There is a hotel and an English pub next door.  We'll stay here 2 nights and explore this area some more. What a fantastic find!  Went to the Cameron Pub for dinner and were blown away with the history and all the detail in the decorations!  This is a Red Letter Day!  We drove all of 14.1 miles!  I think that's the shortest we've ever driven! We hung out at the cabin in Jenner until check-out time, cooked breakfast in the RV then ate it on the deck.  Hard to leave that spot. More spectacular coastline Our campsite.
